After a month a a half together, 18 sessions, it is about time to catch up with old habits and make a quick visit to our blog. Oh my god! has grown with us. Tonia, your Catalan teacher has already been posting in this 3 year old blog. The only thing that had to be done was to add a 3 to its name.
Apart from using the text book, we have also remained loyal to to good old habits and have combined class work with outings. The first one was to Caixa Forum to see an exhibition called Nordic Landscapes.
As a result, you researched some paintings and prepared a group presentation. You also acted as teachers for 1st ESO students. You did a great job! Group work will also be essential this year.
This year we are using a text book, Speak Out. We shall continue using it next year too, so we’ll only have to to cover half of it. This way, we shall have time to do other activities such us discussing current news stories‘ , going on outings and working on projects.
We are still working on unit 1 . One of the aims of the unit, is to analyse interviews. You have already chosen a person you would like to interview and now you have to structure your work. Good interviews are not improvised. The first step was to find a recent interview and analyse it. When did the interview take place? Why? Which media? What was the aim of the interview?
On Monday we are attending a talk by Gonzalo Fanjul, an economist specialized in Development Policies and owner of the blog3.500 millones de ideas irreverentes contra la pobreza. He will talk about why the number of people in the world suffering from lack of food is growing, when at the same time obesity and food waste is on the increase. Last session, we worked on some of the topics he might present: famine; poverty; droughts; food shortage; developing countries; crops, sustainability; hunger. You prepared some questions you would like to ask him. Let’s see if you manage to put your questions through. Click here to Gonzalo Fanjul’s web page. You can find out more about his projects.
Homework. Tuesday 29th October. Write a summary of Gonzalo Fanjul’s talk. Include questions asked by the audience.
