1.en.31 Fables

In our last class, we talked about the Prince of Mist, the book you are reading with  Emili in your Spanish lessons . We also talked about the Aesop Fables you are reading in Catalan with Bernat.  Here you have a Power Point presentation. It will help you unerstand the elements of a fable. After watching it, you’ll see how easy it is to talk about fables in English. Remember we are going to dramatise one!

HOMEWORK: Answer the following questions in your notebook. Monday 27th. Post the answers to 1,2 and 3 to the blog.

Read the fable of the Lion and the Mouse (slides 16-18)

Yo’ull need to know the following words: roar, nibble, wake, beg, laugh, trap, net, hear, realize. When you look up the words in the dictionary, remember to check the past tense, if they are verbs.

What is the moral?

the second in the Power Point, is the Tortoise and the Hare (slides 19-22) . Now, it is your turn to make a list with the words you did not know.

What is the moral?

We have just learnt some adjectives to describe people’s personalities. What about animals? Finish reading the poewr point  and try to answer these questions.

  1. Which animal could be describe as sly?
  2. Which animal could be described as wise?
  3. Do you think it is the same in every culture? why? why not?.  Think of a few examples.

  2. luisdelbarcogonzalez Says:

1 I think the fox can be described like as sly
2 I think the fly can be described like as wise
3 I think it’s diferent in every culture because when you the fables are did whith thinks of this culture and in every culture have diferents thinks. For example in Africa have fables and not one is listened here or in europe…

  3. júlia t Says:

Do you think it is the same in every culture? The fables are not the samein all the cultures why?Because different cultures have different ideas of live. For example de fabule of the ugly hippo it’s an african fable and the fable of the tortle and the tortoise and the hare are the same in all the world.

  4. Pere Says:

    1.The fox.
    2.The raven.
3.Yes and no. Because in the reality the humans are hoarders and in the fables is the same.Because in the fables the mause is a god animal and in the reality is a bad animal.Examples:a fox in the fables are a inteligent animal and in the reality is considerate a inteligent animal, in a fables a cat is a beatiful animal and in the reality are the same…

  5. juliariudez1999 Says:

    2. Which animal could be described as wise? The owl can be described as wise.
    3. Do you think it is the same in every culture? Why not? No, because, for example, in “La llebre i la tortuga”, one is more wise than other. But, in “El Sol i el vent”, the Sun is sly. Is so in all the fables.

3.Do you think it is the same in every culture? why? why not?. Think of a few examples.
-Not because in not all the cultures are the same animals with te same characteristics, for example I think in Europe didn’t have hippos but in Africa have hippos as in the fable “the ugly hippo”.

  7. marpina Says:

2.Which animal could be described as wise? The fly could be described as wise.
3.Do you think it is the same in every culture? why? why not?. Think of a few examples. No I don’t. Every culture is different. The characters, for example, “The ugly hippo” is a typical african fable, and there are no hippos in Europe (except in the zoos). But sometimes the morals are the same in every culture, for example as in “the dolphin and the monkey”: liars may give themselves away.

  8. toniparedes Says:

1.Which animal could be describe as sly? The fox could be describe as sly.
2.Which animal could be described as wise? The fly could be described as wise.
3.Do you think it is the same in every culture? why? why not?. Think of a few examples. I think it’s basically the same in every culture because the moral must be the same all over the world, only characters are different depending on the animals that live in this zone. For exemple: a hippo or a lion won’t be characters in european fables, but all fables teach anything.
